VERY FINE. THIS IS THE UNIQUE PAIR OF THE 1917 12-CENT PERF TEN AT TOP OR BOTTOM ERROR, AND CONTAINS TWO OF THE FOUR RECORDED UNUSED EXAMPLES. A GREAT 20TH CENTURY ERROR RARITY.

This pair comes from what was once a block of four containing two error pairs. The other pair has been separated into two singles (due to one being faulty). EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A SUPERB MINT NEVER-HINGED PLATE BLOCK OF THE 50-CENT 1917 PERF 11 ISSUE IN THE FINEST ATTAINABLE CONDITION.

A Power Search review reveals the rarity of Mint N.H. wide top plate blocks of Scott 517 with anything approaching Extremely Fine centering. The only comparable example we have offered to this superb piece is the block offered in the Saddleback collection in 2007 (Sale 935, lot 126).

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A SUPERB MINT NEVER-HINGED EXAMPLE OF THE 2-CENT PERF 11 DOUBLE-LINE WATERMARKED ISSUE, SCOTT 519. A RARE STAMP IN SUCH SUPERB CONDITION.

This stamp was created in 1917 when a small excess supply of the imperforate Scott 344 was returned by the New York City post office to the Bureau for credit. Rather than issue the credit, the Bureau perforated the sheets and returned them to the New York City post office for public sale.
