Matthew Bennett International is proud to bring to auction this prestigious award-winning collection which contains some of the finest and rarest gems of the Canada pence and early cents era, 1851-1868.

The highlights from the collection are quite numerous. The Pence issue includes the earliest known use of Canadian stamps (May 1, 1851), the finest 1851 3d red single with full corner margins (pos. 100), the 12d is well represented with the finest of three recorded 12d black used pairs, the finest of seven recorded 12d black covers and a choice used single, one of three 3d bisect usages prepaying the 7½d Canadian packet rate, the earliest and one of only two Pence covers from Red River Settlement, the only complete sets of the "stitch watermarks" and set of the experimental & trial perfs, the largest multiple of the ½d value, and the earliest known use of a perforated Canadian stamp. The Cents issue includes the only recorded pence and cents use to Germany, one of only two recorded uses to Algeria, the earliest registered transatlantic cover, the only recorded double-weight to Newfoundland, a 10¢ block of forty that is the largest used multiple of any pre-Confederation stamp and the largest 17¢ used multiple and a choice 10¢ black brown single.

Many of the above highlights have graced the finest collections of the past and the usages in particular have been illustrated in many of the definitive reference works.
