Graham, Jr., Chairman Philatelic National War Fund Committee and Whom it May Concern", its contents read "The attached strip of four Lincoln #368 S coil stamps, I personally cut from a Government coil issue of same and can guarantee its authenticity for the auction in favor of the National War Fund drive.", with violet c.d.s. at bottom left of letter; a most unusual item perfect for exhibition. 353		368	#368, 2c Lincoln imperforate, U.S. Automatic Vending so-called "Experimental Ty. IIIx private perforations, this pair is among the very few known pairs of this private coil forerunner, being quite well centered, o.g., each stamp with natural vertical gum wrinkles and a small stain in between a couple of perforations near the top, all of which are really insignificant considering the coil's rarity; early on the U.S.A.V. Co. sold some stamp vending machines to Messrs. Heiman and Zorke who operated a chain of stamp vending machines in stores throughout New York City on a "share the profit" basis, they also had vending machines elsewhere in which they were not allowed to use the U.S.A.V. Co. Ty. II coils due to patent restrictions, these perforated 12 Ty. IIIx experimental perforations, which were made by hand, were used in these machines on a trial basis and did not work properly in the machines, therefore they were abandoned and the perforated 8 1/2 coils were adopted; 1994 APS certificate; ex-Agris.
