S.G. #63 |
S.G. #63, 1912 500R Green and red on green, incredibly well centered, rich vibrant colors that are completely unrubbed, well incised impressions, full o.g. that is
relatively lightly hinged, extremely fine. The Five Hundred Rupee is one of the rarest 20th Century stamps of the British Commonwealth, as it is often missing from even the most advanced collections. When one does find an example, it invariably has
imperfections, such as surface rubbing, toning or gum loss, plus several known copies have more severe faults such as thins, creases or repairs, not to mention some offered as mint are cleaned, regummed or have removed "Specimen" overprints. That
makes the Rinkoff example, with its gorgeous fresh color, near perfect centering and full original gum, such a special stamp. One of the very finest examples known of this important British Empire rarity. Signed H. Bloch and accompanied by a 1979
BPA certificate; ex-Sir Gawaine Baillie (Scott #59; $22,000.00). (Image) |
