(Image) $742.00 SOLD for $190.00 Will close during Public Auction RUSSIA Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate 1166 O 29a #29a, 1875 10k Brown and blue, Center Inverted, an attractive used example of this important rarity, featuring deep luxuriant colors and strong impressions, quite well centered for the issue, neat portion of a town c.d.s. at bottom, couple of small flaws (minor thin spot and slightly rounded corner at top left) which neither detract from its very fine appearance, nor its desirability given how few are known to exist. This stamp ranks among the greatest rarities of the world, with only five examples recorded - all of which are used. As such, this is not only an indispensable rarity for the finest collection of classic Russian stamps, but is also one of the most important stamps to seek out for the most advanced collector of inverted centers of the world. A spectacular rarity that has graced the collections of several famous collectors such as Ferrary, Rothschild, Goss and Cunliffe; accompanied by a 2009 PF certificate (Michel #27xK; €50,000). (Image) $7,500.00 SOLD for $2,500.00 Will close during Public Auction 1168 / 87gh var. #87gh var., 1918 1R Pale brown, brown and red orange, imperforate, horizontal lozenges of varnish on face, Groundwork Double, One Inverted, a most amazing and striking complete sheet of 50, displaying a second strong overall impression of the groundwork, however it is inverted and is strongly displaced to top right, leaving two stamps at bottom right completely normal, but all other stamps with portions (or completely covered) with a second inverted impression, huge sheet selvages all around, showing plate number "6" at bottom left, o.g., stamps never hinged, hinged in the sheet selvages only neat vertical crease between the sixth and seventh rows, very fine; this variety is unlisted in both Scott and Michel, and is believed to be unique as a sheet; ex-Cunliffe (Michel #77Bx var.).
