VERY FINE AND CHOICE. A RARE MINT NEVER-HINGED EXAMPLE OF THE ONE-CENT COMPOUND PERF IMPERFORATE BETWEEN. VERY FEW ARE KNOWN, ESPECIALLY IN MINT NEVER-HINGED CONDITION.
According to Gary Griffith, this error was discovered in 1939 in Bergen N.Y. The find was reported as thirteen blocks of four and three pairs, but some were subsequently determined to have blind perfs and were disqualified.
Illustrated in United States Stamps 1927-32 by Gary Griffith and from his collection. Ex Floyd and Whitman. With 1996 and 2009 P.F. certificates (Image)

FINE. THIS IS ONE OF ONY TWO RECORDED EXAMPLES OF THE 30-CENT 1917 POSTAGE DUE ISSUE PERFORATED 10 ON ONE SIDE. THIS RARE PERFORATION VARIETY WAS ONLY RECENTLY LISTED IN THE SCOTT CATALOGUE, BASED ON THIS STAMP AND ANOTHER FOUND BY JOHN R. BOKER, JR..
Records indicate that the printing of this Postage Due issue in the Deep Claret shade occurred concurrently with the printing of the Washington-Franklin regular issues that were perforated on the machine with the pins in part of one row set at gauge 10 instead of 11. This stamp and the other known example were both discovered by John R. Boker Jr. as he was sorting his collection of precancels.
With 2008 P.F. certificate (Image)
