VERY FINE AND CHOICE. AN EXCEEDINGLY RARE SOUND EXAMPLE OF THE 8-CENT 1917 ISSUE PERF 10 AT TOP. ONE OF THE FINEST OF ONLY EIGHTEEN EXAMPLES RECORDED IN OUR CENSUS.
Of the 18 examples we record in our census (available at http://www.siegelauctions.com/dynamic/census/508c/508c.pdf) and printed on p. 90 of this catalogue, nine are sound or potentially sound (four of these have very low certificate numbers and need to be examined for condition). Eight are without a precancel. Most examples are centered strongly to one side, several are cut in, have faults or both. With an attractive cancel and choice centering, this should be considered a condition rarity among rarities. Only two other examples in our census compare favorably to this one.

Despite the minor crease, this example is very desirable with the identifiable cancel and better than typical centering.
