VERY FINE APPEARANCE. THIS IS THE EARLIEST REPORTED LETTER FROM SPANISH COLONIAL NEW ORLEANS.

Accompanied by typed translation which reads in part "Aboard the Spanish frigate Jupiter, moored at Horn Island 30 leagues from New Orleans" and also "It is believed that the 'Donation of the Mississippi' [referring to secret treaty of Nov. 3, 1759 ceding Louisiana to Spain] is simulated because the Spanish Governor has not yet taken possession. He has refused to meet the Savage ambassadors and everything is still in the hands of the French." (Image)
