FINE. A BLOCK OF FOUR IS THE LARGEST RECORDED MULTIPLE OF THE 1882 5-CENT KAMEHAMEHA V IMPERFORATE-HORIZONTALLY ERROR. ONLY THREE SUCH BLOCKS ARE RECORDED.
The three blocks all come from the same part of the sheet and originally formed a block of twelve. Each shows part of the imprint. One other is offered in this sale. The third is ex Honolulu Advertiser (selvage rejoined).
Unlisted in Scott as a block. Scott Retail as two pairs. (Image)
EXTREMELY FINE. THIS IS THE SECOND LARGEST MULTIPLE OF THE 1891 2-CENT LILIUOKALANI IMPERFORATE-HORIZONTALLY. ESPECIALLY RARE SHOWING PART OF THE IMPRINT.
The largest known multiple is a part imprint block of six from our Honolulu Advertiser sale, which was once attached to this block at top. The Advertiser block is illustrated in Meyer-Harris, so the separation through the imprint occurred more than 60 years ago. The 1954 sale of the Admiral Harris collection also contained a block of four but without the imprint. The top right corner block of four showing part of the imprint is offered in lot 633 in this sale.
Scott Retail for as two pairs and with no premium for the imprint (Image)
