1753 og Image1c Dark Ultramarine, Special Printing (192). Without gum as issued, radiant color on crisp paper, new P.F. certificate describes two tiny thin spots and tiny corner perf crease at bottom left -- the "thin spots" are typical paper mesh airholes along the side of the stamp, and the "perf crease" could be eliminated simply by removing the excess paper from the bottom left, leaving an intact corner -- in our opinion this is a sound stamp

Bottom imprint and plate no. 367 block of ten, original gum, h.r., rich color, each stamp with the eight patent punches in a circle, few trivial perf separations, a few surface flaws endemic to this patented paper

VERY FINE. AN EXCEEDINGLY RARE AND POSSIBLY UNIQUE PLATE BLOCK OF THE 3-CENT RE-ENGRAVED WITH DOUGLAS PATENT PUNCH APPLIED TO THWART CANCELLATION REMOVAL.

The Douglas Patent was designed to prevent the re-use of stamps through printing on two thin layers of paper, which would break apart when removed from a cover. It is reported that some were sold at the Washington D.C. post office. (Image)
