van Dam #FB53a |
van Dam #FB53a, 1868 $2.00 Third Bill revenue, Center Inverted, an extraordinary quality used example of this very rare and popular error, being not only completely
free of any of the flaws that affect the few known copies, but is likely among the finest quality examples extant, well centered within large margins, gorgeous intense colors and impressions, light and neat portions of both manuscript and blue
handstamped cancels, very fine and exceedingly choice. (Image) |

van Dam #FB53a, 1868 $2.00 Third Bill revenue, Center Inverted, near perfect centering which is almost impossible to find on this rarity, strikingly intense
colors and impressions, small neat portion of a manuscript cancel, just a few gum soaked perf. tips mentioned for complete accuracy only, very fine; one of the few completely sound and well centered copies in existence. (Image) |

van Dam #FB53a, 1868 $2.00 Third Bill revenue, Center Inverted, quite well centered within uncharacteristically large margins, bright colors and crisp
impressions, small unobtrusive manuscript cancel, small cut in central vignette which has been neatly closed, otherwise very fine and handsome. (Image) |

van Dam #FB53a, 1868 $2.00 Third Bill revenue, Center Inverted, fairly well centered within unusually large margins, wonderfully fresh colors and impressions on
bright paper, neat small portion of a manuscript cancel, couple of shorter perforations, one of which ends in a trivial thin speck, nearly very fine appearance. (Image) |

van Dam #FB53a |
van Dam #FB53a, 1868 $2.00 Third Bill revenue, Center Inverted, used, cancelled solely by a desirable blue handstamp cancel (dated 1874) and one of the few
existing copies to not have been cancelled in manuscript, centered a bit to top right, strong rich colors, tiny perf. tip crease, fine and visually quite striking. (Image) |

van Dam #FB53a |
van Dam #FB53a, 1868 $2.00 Third Bill revenue, Center Inverted, used, faint manuscript cancel that has been slightly lightened, rich colors, interestingly the
inverted central vignette shows a strong shift to the right which is much more pronounced than any other example we have seen, pulled perforation at right, otherwise fine; one might surmise that with a remarkable total of six copies of this revenue
inverted center being found in the Cunliffe collection that it is an "easy'' stamp to find, the truth of the matter is that this inverted center is a major rarity that is seldom seen offered at auction, let alone in this "quantity", this is literally
a once-in-a-lifetime offering of six examples in one sale (which took Mr. Cunliffe over 50 years to accomplish), we feel confident that no sale ever in the future will afford collectors this substantial "selection" to choose from. (Image) |

van Dam #AL1/16c |
van Dam #AL1/16c, 1906 Alberta 10c-$1.00 Law stamps accumulation, a seldom seen specialized group of 95 stamps, various values, collected both for the many varieties found on these stamps (such as fancy "L" in "Law", pin perforated and
inverted backgrounds) as well as most having been plated by position (12 stamps to a sheet), with five different values present in complete sheet reconstructions (or nearly so), several key values noted, along with scarce multiples including a couple
of blocks of four which are most uncommon, mixture of either punch cancels or handstamped cancels (or both), an occasional small fault noted, overall fine-very fine. |

van Dam #BCL25c |
van Dam #BCL25c, 1912-26 British Columbia 50c Brown fifth series Law stamp, with additional impression of 10c Black (inverted) on top of 50c stamp, a most
remarkable "double impression" error of two different designs on the same stamp, and then inverted to one another, the listing example and the only copy discovered to date, well centered and margined, tied to full original 1918 document
(registration of business title) by violet double oval "Victoria/May 31 1918/Registry" handstamp, with additional strike at top of document, further cancelled by a couple of typical punch cancels, stamp does have small portion missing at bottom left
which, given this stamp's unique status, and it being on a full document, is of little consequence; woefully undercataloged in our opinion as this is one of the most unusual stamp printing errors of any country we have seen. (Image) |

van Dam #SL1-10, SL13-20 |
van Dam #SL1-10, SL13-20, 1907 5c-$5.00 Saskatchewan Coat of Arms Law stamps, with scroll background inverted, an extremely scarce group consisting of ten
different values of the first printing to the $5.00, as well as the complete set of eight values to the $3.00 of the second printing, with the $1.00 value being represented by both an inverted background example, as well as a normal copy which is
quite rare, all with typical central punch cancel and a few with additional manuscript pen or crayon cancels, some with flaws characteristic of these, overall fine-very fine; these fascinating stamps were issued in sheets of 25 each, position 1 of
the sheet always was with the inverted background (except some of the sheets of the $1.00 and all of the sheets of the $2.00 of the second printing were issued with the background inverted); cataloged simply as "normal" stamps without any premium for
the variety, which should be quite substantial given their scarcity. (Image) |

van Dam #SL1a |
van Dam #SL1a, 1907 Saskatchewan 5c Coat of Arms Law stamp, Center Inverted, an especially fresh example, with strong colors on white paper, well centered,
punch cancel as always but without any faults or crayon cancel which affects several of the known examples, very fine; although 80 sheets each containing one invert were printed, less than 10 examples have been recorded, all except one (still
in the original sheet) are used, so it is quite likely that the others were actually used before the discovery was made and very few, if any, additional examples will probably ever be found. (Image) |

van Dam #SL1a |
van Dam #SL1a, 1907 Saskatchewan 5c Coat of Arms Law stamp, Center Inverted, another used example of this rare revenue invert, this in the highly desirable se-tenant
pair with a normal stamp, the left stamp being the invert, while the right stamp is normal, nicely centered and very fresh, punch cancel as always, along with a blue crayon stroke cancel, very fine; to our knowledge, this is just one of two
such se-tenant pairs known, with the only other example existing in a "multiple" format is the full mint sheet containing an invert at position 19; an important showpiece for either the Canadian revenue specialist or the inverted centers of the
world collector. (Image) |
